Jack Wilshere is close to returning to Arsenal as the head coach of the under-21s, according to Team News and Ticks on Patreon.
The Gunners account, famous for leaking team news on the internet and followed by the likes of Dharmesh Sheth, David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and Gary Jacobs on X (formerly known as Twitter), has been a trusted source concerning all things Arsenal for months.
They claimed this afternoon that while a deal has not been finalised between both parties, there is confidence that it will be wrapped up very soon.
Arsenal have been on the lookout for another head coach for their under-21s after Mehmet Ali left the club last month to join the backroom staff of new Brentford manager Keith Andrews.
Wilshere was announced as the new head coach of the Arsenal under-18s in July 2022 after retiring from professional football, and he led them to the final of the 2022-23 FA Youth Cup in his first season in charge.
The 33-year-old left the North London club last October to join the first-team coaching crew of Norwich City, working under their former manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.
He was named the interim manager of the Canaries after Thorup and his assistant were sacked in April, and he oversaw two games.
Wilshere held talks with Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids last October about becoming their manager but remained at the North London club.
The former Arsenal midfielder dreams of becoming a Premier League first-team manager someday, but he is keen on returning to youth football for now after his time at Norwich failed to go as planned.
Wilshere played a key role in helping Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly become first-team regulars having tutored them during their time in the under-18s, and he will be eager to help produce more talented players for first-team manager Mikel Arteta.
