In a recent interview with RAC 1Albert Sanchez, who served as the head coach of Barça Atlètic last season, has opened up about his time at the club, the growing allure of Saudi Arabian football, and the talent of Lamine Yamal.
Sanchez spoke candidly about these topics, even heaping praise on Yamal, having seen him closely during his early days.

Sanchez indeed reserved special praise for Yamal, recalling the winger’s standout presence even during his time at The Masia.
“It was clear that he was a different player. He outshone everyone; he’s one of those players who, the better the opponent, the bigger the stadiums, and the better the teammates, the better he performs,” he said.
“He was a special talent from the start at The Masiaand he was seen as an exceptional player,” he added.
Talking about The Masiathe coach also talked about other young talents such as Dro, who has caught a lot of attention with his performances in pre-season.
“Dro is a different player, and Gufri is a fantastic player with the qualities of a first-team player,” he said.
On leaving Barcelona and Saudi Arabia
After his departure from the club, Sanchez spoke honestly about what led to his decision to move on.
“It’s very hard to leave Barcelona, but I’m not someone who settles for little; I’m very ambitious. I knew that sooner or later I would leave,” he said.
Reflecting on Barça Atletic’s relegation, he said: “There were many circumstances where things didn’t go as we hoped. It’s unfortunate that the team ended up getting relegated.”
“I feel responsible for the situation. It was a very tough season, but it was a year of learning,” he added.
Finally, Sanchez also weighed in on the growing trend of young players heading to the Middle East.
“They put contracts on the table that you can’t refuse. Moreover, Saudi Arabia is making huge strides on a competitive level. They offer excellent deals, and some players decide to leave,” he concluded.
Albert Sanchez is currently serving as the manager of French second division club USL Dunkerque – a club he joined immediately after leaving Barcelona.
