PM: Atalanta striker re-appears on Milan’s list

There is a new name on the list of striker candidates that the AC Milan management are sorting through: Gianluca Scamacca of Atalanta.

During his press conference to journalists at Casa MilanMilan’s sporting director Tare confirmed that the club are looking for a striker who has almost the same physical and technical characteristics as Olivier Giroud.

“We are evaluating both in Italy and outside Italy: it is a question of characteristics and for our team’s game it is fundamental. He must be a player with completely different characteristics to those of Gimenez who is not a centre-forward like Giroud: we must be good at completing these two things together.”

Scamacca’s name emerges

According to PianetaMilanthe likes of Lorenzo Lucca (Udinese) and Aleksandr Mitrović (Al-Hilal) have been mentioned as options, but Scamacca is also present. He has been linked with Milan since his days at Genoa and then at Sassuolo.

In 2023-24 he racked up 19 goals and eight assists in 44 games across Serie A, Europa League and the Coppa Italia for Atalanta, following a difficult season on loan at West Ham. Last season, though, he played just five minutes because of a cruciate ligament injury then a thigh problem.

In the meantime, Mateo Retegui (another Milan target) arrived in Bergamo, becoming the league’s top scorer with 25 goals in 2024-25. He has become the undisputed starter for La Dea, and this is forcing Scamacca to reflect.

He is under contract until June 2027 and represented by CAA Stellar. The 26-year-old has a value of between €20-25m which falls within the budget that Milan have set aside, but they may also try for a more advantageous loan formula.
