Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard following the Premier League win against Leeds United.
The Gunners climbed to the top of the league after a 5-0 rout of Leeds.
Jurrien Timber and Viktor Gyokeres bagged braces, while Bukayo Saka was also on the scoresheet.
Unfortunately, Saka was forced to be substituted in the second half with a hamstring injury. Martin Odegaard was also taken off in the first half with a shoulder issue.
Speaking after the 5-0 victory, Arteta said that he has not spoken with the doctor yet, but acknowledged that Saka appears to have picked up a ‘significant’ concern.
He said: “I don’t know, obviously I haven’t spoken to the doctor yet. But for Bukayo to come off… for sure, it looks like something that is significant.”
Arsenal have made the perfect start to the league campaign with back-to-back wins, and are currently top of the standings on goal difference to Tottenham Hotspur.
Next up, the Gunners have a testing challenge versus holders Liverpool at Anfield. The Gunners have not won at the stadium since a 2-0 success way back in 2012.
It promises to be an entertaining affair, and it remains to be seen whether there is an injury boost.
Odegaard’s shoulder issue does not appear a big concern, and the Norwegian could be deemed fit to make the matchday squad against the Reds next weekend.
Saka’s setback would be a massive blow for the Gunners, but the club now have depth and quality in the squad on the back of a huge spending spree this summer.
Noni Madueke looks poised to start on the right wing at Anfield. We could see new signing Eberechi Eze making his debut on the left wing or in the number 10 role.
Gyokeres has gained some much-needed confidence with his brace today, and should be determined to prove his credentials against Arne Slot’s side on the road.
