The Premier League have explained why United’s penalty was overturned:

‘After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of penalty to Manchester United.

‘Referee announcement: “After review, Burnley number two (Walker) does not commit a foul on Man United number seven (Mount).

‘”My final decision is no penalty and drop ball to the goalkeeper.”’

United nearly double their lead as Amad and Mbeumo combine on the right-flank and the former has a pop.

That change appears to have unsettled United slightly as Burnley start to get a grip on the game.

It sounds like Benjamin Sesko has been dropped purely because of fitness reasons. Diogo Dalot has been picked over Patrick Dorgu for tactical reasons.

‘We have to take account of what we see against Grimsby,’ Amorim says.

‘Sesko did 90 minutes. We were thinking a different thing, but he did 90 minutes – (it was a) struggle in the end, because he didn’t play so many minutes in the pre-season.

‘We are going to return Altay (Bayindir to the XI) because he is doing his job in the league and Patrick sometimes we change that position because of the foot – to have a right foot in there, to see the characteristics of the opponent and try to imagine also the game in the end.

‘So that is always the same question. We try to put the best XI to start thinking about finishing the game with a different XI.’

It’s early days of course but it feels like Ruben Amorim really needs a win today or he’ll go into the international break with the threat of the sack looming over him.
