RASHFORD DOUBLE LIGHTS UP ST JAMES’ PARK IN FRONT OF ENGLAND BOSS THOMAS TUCHEL
Marcus Rashford grabbed his first two goals for Barcelona as Hansi Flick’s side kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a dominant 2-1 victory at Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s hosts rampaged out of the traps in front of a fervent Toon Army and had the best chance of a goalless first half when Harvey Barnes’ effort from Anthony Elanga’s cross was superbly kept out by Joan Garcia.
Barcelona dominated without truly hurting The Magpies’ rearguard and appeared to be missing the injured Lamine Yamal prior to the break.
On-loan Manchester United star, Rashford looked to change that and flashed home a superb header from a right-wing corner just prior to the hour.
The forward then scored a sensational 22-yard thunderbolt that flew in off the crossbar to truly announce himself in a Blaugrana shirt.
Anthony Gordon tapped in a late consolation for The Magpies, but Barca were well worth their victory in the end.
Next up, Newcastle travel to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. Barcelona host Getafe in La Liga.
