EZE OPENS ACCOUNT AS GUNNERS EASE INTO ROUND FOUR
Eberechi Eze’s first goal for Arsenal set them on the way to victory at Port Vale in the League Cup third-round tie.
In a professional display, Kepa Arrizabalaga was never tested in the Gunners goal and their progression to the last 16 was rubber-stamped by Leandro Trossard’s low drive from the edge of the area four minutes from time.
Arsenal dominated from the first whistle with scintillating interplay around the Vale penalty area and broke the deadlock after eight minutes. Their £60 million signing from Crystal Palace latched onto a ball rolled into the penalty area from Gabriel Martinelli on the left and coolly slotted home.
After struggling to get the ball out of their defensive third in the first half an hour, Darren Moore’s side battled on more even terms for much of the match but found Arsenal’s defence very stubborn and capable of dealing with high balls into the box from throw-ins and corners.
A dipping effort from Devante Cole was the best effort from the home side but even that was covered by Kepa.
