United currently sit in 11th place having struggled to improve their results after a disastrous campaign last season.
They have seven points, with two wins, two defeats and a draw so far, and they were also knocked out of the League Cup in a shock loss against Grimsby.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday ahead of the weekend’s game, Amorim said he understood fans’ trepidation going into matches given the club’s recent track record.
“It’s normal for the fans, they don’t know what is going to happen in the next game,” he said.
“To be completely honest, I have an idea, but I don’t know how it’s going to be, and I’m the manager of the team. That has to do with the moment that we live for so many months. The best way of dealing with that is that every game is the last one. It’s just not thinking about two games. Yes, it’s a big deal for Manchester United.
“The next game is going to be the most important game for a long time for Manchester United.
Amorim acknowledged that three points, and two wins in a row, is essential.
He said: “It’s really important, and we talked about that at the end of the game. It’s really important for us to have that sense of urgency that we need to win no matter what, and it’s going to be really difficult.
“Every time we start preparing the game, and you watch the next opponent, you think, ‘It’s going to be really, really tough’. I have that feeling.
“We cannot control the result of the game, but for me, the most important thing is to start the game the way we started against Chelsea, the way we started against Burnley, the way we started against Arsenal. These kinds of games, we need to be really focused and to have that feeling that we need to win every match.”
Amorim will be able to call upon forward Bryan Mbeumo, who is set to make his first appearance against Brentford after leaving the club in the summer for Old Trafford.

He added: “I think Licha (Martinez) is out. Casemiro is out because of the red card.
“Amad is not here, someone in his family passed away, so we are giving all the support to Amad, and we understood that was important for him to have his time and to return home (in Manchester). The rest are fit and ready to play.”
The Portuguese also mentioned that Noussair Mazraoui would not be back for selection until after the forthcoming international break.
