Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira suffered a knee injury during the 0-0 draw against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
The Portuguese playmaker joined the German outfit on a season-long loan with an option to buy for £17.5 million next summer.
Vieira has since made a good impression for Hamburg. He made his debut in the thumping 5-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on the road.
The 25-year-old provided the assist for the winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Heidenheim this month.
However, he was sent off against Union last weekend. Vieira played 98 minutes in the goalless draw before his straight red card.
The Arsenal man will be suspended for two games due to violent conduct, but he suffered a knee injury too during his reckless challenge.
There were fears of a serious injury, but he won’t be ruled out for the long term, as per Kicker.
Arsenal need Vieira’s loan move to work out
The Porto graduate had a tough career with the Gunners. He struggled to cope with the extra physicality and pace of the Premier League.
Vieira had his best game against Fulham a couple of years ago with two assists, but he ended up picking up a groin injury within a few weeks.
The lack of continuity has hampered his career. The Portuguese has made a good start with Hamburg, and hopefully, he can return to action as soon as possible.
Arsenal are ready to cut their losses on their £34 million signing, having agreed on a buy clause for just half of the figure with Hamburg this summer (£17.5m).
A permanent transfer will largely depend on Vieira turning up with several stand-out performances, while helping Hambury avoid relegation from Bundesliga.
The Gunners need Vieira’s loan move to work out. Otherwise, they could be selling him for much less next summer with his contract expiring in June next year.
