The world No. 2 set up a mouth-watering meeting with the USA’s Learner Tien in the climax of the tournament by defeating his Australian rival 6-3 4-6 6-2.
Sinner believes that the world No. 8 brought something different to his performance this time around.
“I had my chances in the second set and couldn’t use them but he had his chances and it was quite an even match.
“In the third set I tried to raise my level. I broke him very early, which gave me confidence to then serve better.
“I am very happy about today. It was a different match than usual against him, it was a very even match.
“I tried to stay concentrated and not lose mental energy. It was a very difficult match today, so I am very happy.”
Despite that defeat, Sinner has enjoyed a successful 2025 season, reaching the final of all four Grand Slams and storming to victory at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
This is the third consecutive year that the 24-year-old has reached the final of the China Open.
He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final in 2023, but fell to defeat against Alcaraz 12 months ago.
