Arne Slot confirms Alisson is out for clash against Chelsea after coming off injured in UEFA Champions League defeat to Galatasaray

The goalkeeper was withdrawn in the 56th minute after making a fine save to deny Victor Osimhen.

Speaking after the match, Slot told Amazon Prime: “It’s never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure he is not playing Saturday.”

This means that £29 million summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili looks set to make his Premier League debut at Stamford Bridge, after being brought on to replace the Brazilian.

Alisson has already suffered his fair share of injury woes after missing a chunk of last season with a hamstring problem.

Slot also gave a worrying update concerning Hugo Ekitike, who was replaced by Alexis Mac Allister in the second half. That leaves the Frenchman as a doubt for the trip to west London.

Slot continued: “I wasn’t really thinking that we had an injury, but Hugo felt something. He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he is for the weekend.”

Despite these back-to-back defeats, Liverpool have still overall had a very decent start to the season. Slot’s men are top of the Premier League, two points clear of Arsenal.

Liverpool next face a Chelsea side who got off the mark in the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Benfica on Tuesday, thanks to a first-half own goal by Richard Rios.
