Barcelona manager Hansi Flick took time out to attend the Oktoberfest celebrations yesterday, an event that brought together Barcelona’s German-speaking community.
Even in such a festive setting, the German coach did not shy away from addressing the current atmosphere surrounding the club, especially after the recent 1-2 loss against PSG in the Champions League.
That competition remains the ultimate goal for the Blaugrana, and Flick was clear about the ambition within the squad and the city itself.
“My most special day with Bayern Munich was when we won the Champions League. It was spectacular.
“Everyone in Barcelona wants that, and we’ll fight to make it happen. It won’t be easy, but I promise that we will fight for the Champions League,” he said with determination.
Looking back
Flick also looked back on the highs of his journey with Barcelona so far, pointing out how last season brought unforgettable memories.
“Last year was the best year of my life. It’s not easy, to be honest, but I think last season, when we toured Barcelona by bus, was incredible.
“I hope we also win the right titles, but I repeat, it’s not easy,” he added.
Now in his second season at the helm, Flick knows the weight of expectation that comes with leading a club that has not reached a Champions League final for over a decade.
Still, he made it clear that he and the players will continue to push themselves to the limit.
“We will give our best, but it’s not easy. If it happens, I’ll be very happy,” he reaffirmed.
Matchday routine
Offering a more personal touch, the German coach also shared details about how the team prepares on matchdays.
“The first meeting is about the set pieces, and then lunch. Afterwards, the players go to sleep, as do the coaches.
“And before leaving the hotel, we have the match plan, and we go. Normally, we like to win, but yesterday it wasn’t possible,” Flick concluded.
