Arsenal have opened talks with Jurrien Timber over a new contract, according to the BBC senior football correspondent Sami Mokbel.
The Gunners star joined the North London club in 2023 from Ajax, signing a five-year deal.
Timber has proven his quality in recent months after an anterior cruciate ligament injury ruled him out of the majority of his debut season with Arsenal.
The Netherlands international defender was brilliant last term and has continued his fine form this term.
The Gunners want to reward Timber for his impressive performances, and while talks over a contract extension are at an early stages, there is a willingness from all parties to reach an agreement.
It would see the 24-year-old extend his stay at the club beyond his current deal, which expires in 2028.
Arsenal have tied both Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba to long-term deals in recent months, and Timber is expected to follow suit.
He has made the right-back position his, but his ability to feature on the left and as a centre-back has come in handy as the Gunners continue to impress at the back.
The North Londoners have conceded just thrice in six Premier League games so far this term, with the Dutchman playing a key role in their impressive start to 2025-26.
They are also yet to concede in the Champions League this term, winning both games of the league phase against Athletic Club and Olympiacos.
Despite bolstering their attack in the summer, it is their defence that has proven crucial so far this term, with the likes of Timber being a key part of the system.
He deserves a new deal after some outstanding performances in the Arsenal colours, and an official announcement could be on the cards in the coming weeks.
Bukayo Saka is also expected to sign a new deal soon, and more key players could be next in line to get rewarded with improved deals.
