The Italian beat the 19-year-old 6-2 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes in Beijing to capture the 21st title of his career.
“Thanks for working with me and we will try to improve and push for more and let’s see what the rest of the season looks like, but I am very happy to share this (trophy) with all of you.”
The rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz is growing stronger with every tournament, and this was the first time since 2020 that the world No. 1 and No. 2 won titles in the same week. Novak Djokovic in Dubai and Rafael Nadal in Acapulco were the last pair to achieve this.
Sinner still trails Alcaraz in the rankings, but will head next to Shanghai as favourite after the Spanish player was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury he sustained in Tokyo.
Sinner, after his triumph in Beijing, reserved praise for Tien, who was playing in his first ATP Tour final.
“You are showing throughout the season what a talent you are,” he said. “Keep going. Hopefully we can have other moments like this in the future.”
Both Alcaraz and Sinner are in contention to finish the season as ATP world No. 1.
Two tournaments that could potentially decide this battle are the final Masters competition of the season in Paris on October 27, and the year-end ATP Finals this November in Bologna.
