Arsenal have had an impressive start to the Premier League season and have already picked up 16 points from their opening seven matches.
The summer spending spree has added more quality and depth to the squad, and it could be key to ending their two-decade-long wait for the title.
Christian Norgaard was one of eight signings made by the Gunners in the summer, but Bold claim that he still ‘dreams’ of ending his career at his former club.
The outlet described the Dane’s move to Mikel Arteta’s side as ‘unexpected’, and he still harbours the ambition of calling time on his career at Brondby.
This was also conveyed by the player himself in an interview with Bold.
He said: “Whether it will be two or three years at Arsenal has not been decided, but we will return to Denmark when the contract expires.
“I can guarantee that Arsenal will be my last club abroad. I still want to return to Brøndby when my contract with Arsenal expires.
“My contract is for two years with an option for an additional year. And I would be happy to stay at Arsenal for the extra year if things develop in that direction.
“If it turns out that it wasn’t the right fit, then we’ll return to Denmark after two years.”
Norgaard is only a short-term solution for Arsenal
The Gunners signed Martin Zubimendi as a direct replacement for Thomas Partey.
Arsenal were open to pursuing a young midfielder such as Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume to replace Jorginho, but sporting director Andrea Berta altered their plans.
Berta wanted an ‘oven-ready and experienced’ replacement in the squad, and it paved the way for the surprise signing of Norgaard from London counterparts Brentford.
Norgaard brings a rich vein of Premier League experience from his time at Brentford. He was their club captain and led by example with several stand-out displays.
Jorginho had a short stint of less than 30 months at Arsenal before his move to Flamengo. It could be a similar case with Norgaard, who will turn 32 in March next year.
Arsenal have handed him a two-year deal and could decide on the 12-month option based on his performances. Norgaard has his sights on moving to Brondby thereafter.
The Gunners would ideally want a quality successor in the squad, and reports claim that the club could make a formal bid for Sevilla’s Agoume in future transfer windows.
The hierarchy have collected positive reports on the player’s progress through their scouting network and have also made enquiries for the midfielder through intermediaries.
Agoume has been described as the ‘next N’Golo Kante‘ due to his tireless work rate. He averages four recoveries, two tackles and two clearances per game in the ongoing La Liga campaign.
The Frenchman has a release clause worth £35 million in his contract, but could be signed for less, given Sevilla’s tight financial situation amid the lack of European football in recent seasons.
