Arsenal are the main candidates to purchase Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume during the January transfer window, according to Let's go My Sevilla FC.
The Gunners parted ways with Thomas Partey and Jorginho on free transfers over the summer. They replaced the duo with Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.
It has been claimed that they have already made enquiries for Agoume in recent months, and Vamos Mi Sevilla FC add that the player is aware of the Gunners’ interest.
Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly the main candidates to make an offer for the Frenchman next winter if he continues to maintain his current run of form in La Liga.
Sevilla are eyeing a ‘big sale’ of the 23-year-old to restructure their squad.
Agoume could be a bargain signing for the Gunners
Agoume had his breakthrough campaign with Sevilla last season. He made 35 appearances in the Spanish top-flight and caught the eye with several stand-out performances.
The Frenchman has continued from where he left off. Agoume has registered one goal and one assist from seven outings in the central and defensive midfield roles this term.
Aside from his goal involvements, he has averaged four recoveries, two tackles and two clearances per game, while winning almost 60 percent of his aerial challenges.
Agoume has also excelled with his tireless work rate. He has been dubbed as the ‘next N’Golo Kante‘, and Arsenal could seek to bring him to north London ahead of other suitors.
Norgaard has been signed on a short-term deal until June 2027 with an option for a year. The Dane has personally admitted that he plans to return to Brondby after his Gunners stint.
Agoume would be a good acquisition with a long-term vision in mind. He reportedly has a release clause worth £35 millionbut could be signed for less amid Sevilla’s financial concerns.
Sevilla have been out of Europe for the past few years and could be persuaded to sanction his departure if they receive a package of around £25m, which would represent a bargain deal, in our view.
Arsenal initially looked at signing Agoume before sporting director Andrea Berta opted to go with Norgaard. They could step up their interest if Agoume continues to impress.
