KIMMICH SCORES TWICE AS GERMANY CRUISE PAST LUXEMBOURG IN UEFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIER GROUP A

Joshua Kimmich scored twice as Germany cruised past 10-man Luxembourg with a 4-0 victory at the ProZero Arena on Friday.

Serge Gnabry thought he had given his country the early lead after just four minutes, only for his deflected effort to be chalked off after hitting Nick Woltemade’s arm in the process.

But it was RB Leipzig’s David Raum, who would put Germany ahead with a superb free-kick from 20 yards out curling around the wall to find the bottom right corner.

Luxembourg were reduced to ten-men shortly after when a glorious volley from Gnabry hit the arm of Dirk Carlson in the penalty box to award Germany with a penalty kick, with VAR intervening and Carlson shown a straight red card.

Germany captain Kimmich would double the lead for the hosts from the spot as he sent Anthony Moris the wrong way with a calm and composed finish into the bottom corner.

The hosts would not have to wait long after half-time until they made it three when Serge Gnabry’s pace caused all kinds of problems down the right-hand side, as Karim Adeyemi played the Bayern Munich winger through, with Gnabry firing into the top left corner.

The fourth goal would come just seconds later when Luxembourg failed to clear the ball from Raum’s corner into the box, with Kimmich given a simple tap in to score his second of the match to mark his 104th cap for his country.

Germany go top of Group A on goal difference, with Julian Nagelsmann heading to Northern Ireland to take on Michael O’Neill’s side on Monday, October 13.
