Euro 2025 resulting as Angeedahl's Goal Sess Swear Bedinger Group C With Victory in Geneva

Filippa Angeldahl scored the winner as Sweden began their Euro 2025 campaign with a 1-0 over neighbours Denmark.

The talking point was a VAR check over a potential handball against Sweden’s Madelen Janogy who was off balance as the ball appeared to hit her hand following a Denmark free-kick. After a wait of over four minutes, the referee said no penalty.

Sweden dominated possession but created few clear-cut chances. The best of them fell to Angeldahl with a free-kick from the edge of the box which was brilliantly tipped over by the keeper.

The Danes defended well and their best chance of the half fell to Pernille Harder who dinked an effort over.

Peter Gerhardsson’s side broke the deadlock at the start of the second half when Kosovare Asllani found Angeldahl whose fierce low strike nestled in the bottom corner.

Denmark made substitutions including the introduction of 37-year-old Nadia Nadim and they came agonisingly close to an equaliser when Harder’s long-range effort rattled the bar late on.

But Sweden, considered dark horses for the tournament, held on to begin their campaign with a victory.
