FA Cup first-round draw: Eighth-tier Maldon & Tiptree visit Port Vale, Hemel Hempstead will travel to 2013 winners Wigan Athletic

Maldon & Tiptree, the lowest-ranked team left in this season’s Emirates FA Cup, will travel to Port Vale in the first round.

The tie will be seen as decent reward for Maldon’s run so far, which included a 1-0 win over Flackwell Heath in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

Former West Ham United forward Freddie Sears scored the only goal of the game for the team from the Isthmian League North Division.

Now the Essex outfit will travel north to face Darren Moore’s Port Vale, who are currently in 15th place in League One.

Another classic David v Goliath match sees Wigan Athletic, winners of the competition in 2013, taking on Hemel Hempstead Town.

Wigan beat Manchester City in that 2013 final at Wembley, but the League One club have fallen on harder times since.

Hemel Hempstead are in the National League South and produced a brilliant performance to beat Yeovil Town from the National League in fourth round qualifying.

Bolton Wanderers face Huddersfield Town in a tie for the historians. Bolton were winners of the iconic competition in 1923, 1926, 1929, 1958.

Huddersfield were FA Cup winners in 1922, in a decade which also saw them win three First Division titles.

Luton are now in League One but as recently as last year were playing Premier League matches against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Wilshere is replacing the sacked Matt Bloomfield in the job.

Savage told TNT Sports he will go to Luton positive about claiming victory and extending the Forest Green run further.

“Luton Town were in the Premier League a couple of years ago, Jack Wilshere is a fantastic young manager with a point to prove. They will be favourites,” Savage said.

“I’ll be telling my players they can go there and win. Why not?”

If seventh-tier Gainsborough United beat Hartlepool United in their fourth round qualifying replay, the Lincolnshire side will host League Two Accrington Stanley.

League One leaders Stevenage, the highest-ranked club as the draw took place, will take on League Two Chesterfield at home.

The winners of the all-Surrey replay between Sutton and Farnham will entertain Telford in the first round.
