Arsenal registered a convincing 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night.
As a result, the Gunners picked up their fourth-straight clean sheet in all competitions.
Goalkeeper David Raya made a mistake early on, coming outside the box, but luckily Julian Alvarez could not find the back of the net.
Shortly after the game, Raya spoke to reporters in the mixed zone, and was asked for his opinion on summer signing Piero Hincapié.
Raya said that the Ecuadorian is a ‘great’ player, who has had bad luck due to injury (groin).
He said via Ecuavisa: “Piero Hincapié is a great player. We know he’s had bad luck with the injury since he arrived, but he’s undoubtedly a great player.”
The 23-year-old signed for the Gunners on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The club have an obligation to buy under certain conditions (£45 million).
Hincapié has yet to make a meaningful contribution, but he should get valuable game time in the Premier League during the festive schedule this year.
Gabriel Magalhaes has been an undisputed starter in the left centre-back role in the league, but Hincapié could come on to replace him after the hour mark if required.
The Ecuadorian ace can also operate in the left-back role, but the position is well occupied with Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly competing for places.
The conditions for the obligatory buy clause are presently unclear, but it may be related to a specific number of appearances during the ongoing campaign.
Arsenal take on Crystal Palace in Sunday’s league derby at home. Hincapié could make his league debut off the bench if the Gunners have a healthy goal advantage.
