Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed strong belief that Arsenal are currently the best team in the world and have all it takes to win the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, have been in superb form this campaign. The North London side sit top of the league table after stretching their lead to four points with a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The Gunners have not lifted a Premier League title in 21 years, but this season offers a golden chance to end that wait. Their defensive solidity has been remarkable, with the team conceding only three goals so far.
Mikel Obi praises Arsenal’s depth and dominance

Speaking on his Heart One podcastthe former Nigerian international said that this could finally be Arsenal’s year.
“This season I think it is Arsenal’s. It is Arsenal’s to lose,” Mikel said. “If Mikel Arteta and Arsenal do not win the Premier League, the squad, the depth that they have is frightening.”
He highlighted the quality and options within Arteta’s side, pointing out how several players have stepped up when needed.
“We have seen Arsenal, how many games have they won—you know, Martinelli coming off the bench, winning them games,” he added.
Mikel also mentioned how others have influenced results, saying: “Eberechi Eze is coming off the bench, winning games. Mikel Merino as well is injured… Kai Havertz is injured… No Martin Ødegaard, no Gabriel Jesus. It is frightening.”
He stressed how strong the current Arsenal squad is under Arteta. “The squad that Arsenal has got right now… and Mikel Arteta knows that. He knows that this is Arsenal’s title to lose,” the former midfielder said.
Mikel sends strong message to Arsenal fans

Mikel Obi made it clear that failing to win the league this season would be disappointing.
“If he does not win it—if Mikel Arteta does not win it—listen, any Arsenal fan can agree with me,” he stated. “They can get upset as much as they want, but deep down they know it is the truth.”
He concluded by emphasising the opportunity before Arsenal. “This is the season for Arsenal to win the Premier League. City, it is not there. Liverpool are struggling,” Mikel said.
Arsenal will look to maintain their fine form when they face Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
