Brighton and Hove Albion’s manager, Fabian Hürzeler, has praised Arsenal academy player Max Dowman, drawing comparisons between him and Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal secured a 2-0 win over Brighton, with Mikel Arteta giving opportunities to two young players from the club’s academy.
Andre Harriman-Annous and Max Dowman were both handed starts in what turned out to be an impressive victory for the Gunners.
When asked about Dowman after the match, Hürzeler admitted that Brighton were surprised to see the youngster in the starting line-up.
The Brighton manager said: “He is a similar profile to Saka. We did not know who was going to start.”
Hürzeler’s comments reflected his admiration for Dowman’s performance and playing style, noting the qualities that reminded him of Saka, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by Rio Ferdinand.
Missed chances cost Brighton at the Amex
Despite a bright start, Brighton were left to regret their missed opportunities in the first half. They created several good chances to take the lead but failed to make them count.
Reflecting on the match, Hürzeler expressed his frustration at the team’s inability to score when it mattered most. “I think if we take our chances, we win the game,” he said. “We were not able to score in the most important actions. Defending and giving goals we can do better.”
The German coach emphasised that finishing chances remains a key area for improvement. He added: “Of course, every goal gives you confidence. We had like, a good possibility to score. It gives the players confidence but we were not able to do it.”
Brighton’s attacking intent was clear, but their lack of precision in front of goal proved costly against an organised Arsenal side.
Focus shifts to Leeds United clash
Following the defeat, Brighton will now turn their attention to their next Premier League fixture. The Seagulls are set to face Leeds United at the American Express Stadium.
Hürzeler will be keen to see a response from his players as they look to return to winning ways in front of their home crowd.
With lessons learned from the Arsenal game, Brighton will aim to be more clinical when they host Leeds, hoping to convert their promising build-up play into goals.
