Cristiano Ronaldo is confident Arsenal are capable of winning the Premier League this season but won’t face competition from one of their traditional rivals.
The Gunners have made an outstanding start to the new season and are in the midst of a nine-game winning run in all competitions, ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Slavia Prague.
Despite the undoubted progress they have made under the management of Mikel Arteta, major silverware has continued to elude the north London club.
After an unprecedented summer spending spree, masterminded by new sporting director Andrea Berta,which saw the arrivals of seven new players, including the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze, Arsenal now look well placed to end their wait to be crowned champions of England.
Arteta’s men currently enjoy a six-point lead at the top of the table and will be hopeful of extending that gap ahead of a weekend which sees them visit Sunderland, before Manchester City face Liverpool.

Arsenal superfan Morgan has been in confident mood of late and hailed an ‘impregnable defence’ following yet another victory and clean sheet following last Saturday’s win over Burnley.
Asked whether this will be Arsenal’s year, Ronaldo told Morgan: ‘Could be.
‘It’s possible. I think the PL, the level of the teams is very, very similar, the top ones.
The Premier League, you never know what’s going to happen because it’s a very tough league.
‘It’s possible for Arsenal. (Will they?!) Probably. They can do it. It’s possible. Let’s see.’
The former Real Madrid icon, meanwhile, fears it will be a little longer before another of his old sides, Manchester United, is ready to compete for major honours.
Ruben Amorim appears to have turned a corner in recent weeks amid calls for him to be sacked prior to a run of three wins and a draw from the last four games.
‘United are not going to win the league, for sure,’ declared Ronaldo.
‘Of course, of course because I played there so many years (it is sad to see them struggle).
‘I won titles there, the Golden Ball. Man United is still in my heart but we need to be honest and say it’s not a good path so they need to change. It’s not just about the coach and players.’
On the merits of his Portuguese compatriot, Amorim, he added: ‘He’s doing his best.
‘Miracles are impossible. He can’t do miracles. Man United have good players but some of them don’t have the mind to play for United.’
