Musiala left Bayern’s Club World Cup base for Munich on Sunday to undergo surgery.
The Germany international, who was making his first start since early April after recovering from a hamstring injury, emerged from a challenge with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma screaming and clutching his left ankle.
Several players, including a visibly upset Donnarumma, had to avert their eyes as Bayern’s physios tended to the 22-year-old, before stretchering him off to be taken to hospital.
In a statement, Bayern Munich said: “Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury during the Club World Cup quarter-final between FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain in the USA and had to be substituted at half-time.
“Examinations by the German champions’ doctors have revealed that the attacking midfielder sustained a fracture of the fibula associated with a broken and dislocated ankle. The 22-year-old flew from Orlando to Munich on Sunday morning and will undergo surgery soon.”

The club also confirmed that Musiala would be “sidelined for a long period”.
Despite missing 11 games last season, Musiala was one of Bayern’s most influential players of the campaign, netting 21 goals and notching eight assists in his 44 appearances across all competitions.
“This serious injury and the lengthy lay-off are a real shock for Jamal and us all,” Bayern sporting director Max Eberl added. “This hits FC Bayern.
“Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he has in our team.
“Furthermore, there’s also a huge human impact and we all feel for him: Jamal has just come back from an injury and will now be out for another long period.
“He’ll get everything he needs from us. We’ll support him intensively, be by his side and already look forward to when he’s back on the pitch.”
