Eddie Howe’s side have been looking to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season and reports claim that a deal worth £55 million has been agreed to sign the former Manchester United man.
The Magpies’ offer of UEFA Champions League football next season is said to have been a big draw for Elanga.
Forest were pipped to the fifth and final Champions League spot by Newcastle by one point last season, with Aston Villa finishing between the two sides in sixth after a thrilling qualification battle.
Elanga played a key role in Forest’s superb season as they reached the UEFA Europa Conference League to return to European football for the first time in 30 years.

The 23-year-old winger scored six goals and provided 11 assists after featuring in all 38 Premier League games for his club.
It was the most productive season of his career as he improved on his previous-best five goals and nine assists from his debut campaign at the City Ground in 2023/24.
Capable of playing in a variety of roles, Elanga will add attacking depth to Howe’s ranks for next season and is expected to feature on the right wing.
Elanga will link up with fellow Sweden international Alexander Isak at St. James’ Park, with Anthony Gordon on the left completing a dangerous-looking attacking trident.
The news comes after striker Callum Wilson’s departure was confirmed earlier on Monday after five seasons with the club.
