Novak Djokovic sees Wimbledon as his ‘best chance’ of beating ‘favourites’ Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to clinch Grand Slam record

Novak Djokovic believes that Wimbledon provides him with his “best chance” of beating Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.

“I don’t think I’m a favourite against these guys at the moment,” Djokovic. “I think they are (the favourites). Both of them.

“But I probably have my best chance against them here. If it comes down to me facing one or both of them, which I hope it does, as it would mean I have proceeded all the way to the final, then I’ll obviously look for my best game to win.

“I think I do have a chance. There’s no doubt about it. I think my results on grass, even in the previous years, are a testament to my confidence on this surface.

“I’ve been playing some really good tennis this year. So I feel good about myself. I feel confident. I feel motivated to go all the way. Let’s see what happens.”

Should Djokovic beat Cobolli on Wednesday, it would potentially set up a last-four encounter with Sinner. However, the Serbian refused to take his quarter-final opponent lightly.

On Cobolli, Djokovic said: “He’s a very talented player. One of the youngsters coming up. He’s one of those players that is young, and that we are probably going to see quite a bit in the future.

“I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with his results on grass because he doesn’t strike me as a grass court specialist with his game, but he has reached the quarter-finals.

“He’s beaten (Marin) Cilic and some big servers and big players that are grass court specialists. So huge credit to him.”

Djokovic added: “Let the better player win. What can I say? It’s the quarter-final now. I definitely need to work on my game and start the match better than I did today.”
