Carlos Alcaraz stars in Cameron Norrie rout – and then reveals what he will do in his time off ahead of Taylor Fritz semi-final clash

World No. 2 Alcaraz had too much firepower for Norrie, the last British player left in the draw, as he won 6-2 6-3 6-3 on Centre Court.

Alcaraz has now won 23 matches in a row and two more in the coming days will see him join Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only men to win Wimbledon three years in a row.

Of his consummate performance, the Spaniard added: “I’m just really happy. To be able to play another semi-final at Wimbledon is super special.

“At the beginning of the week, I just wanted to go as far as I could. To play another semi-final here is going to be great, so I’m just really happy with the level that I played today against a really difficult player like Cam.

“He’s an amazing player, and an amazing guy as well. I’m pretty sure there is nobody who works harder than him, and I’m just really happy to see him fighting for great things.

“I’m happy to see him play in these kinds of matches and happy to qualify for the semi-final.

“He (Fritz) is playing great. I think the grass season has been really successful for him so far. He has two titles (Stuttgart and Eastbourne), so I will be ready for that battle.

“I have played a few times against him, he’s always really, really tough to play against, so I will try to play at the same level as today.”

Norrie had won two of his last three meetings against Alcaraz, who had said before the match that the Briton was a “nightmare” to face.

Norrie had his chances early in the match but failed to break from 0-40 in the second game.

That missed opportunity was punished immediately as Alcaraz reeled off the next four games in a row.

The two-time defending champion looked in fine touch as he confidently served out the set with a volleyed winner.

The 22-year-old spoke in more detail about what he is planning to do with his two days off, and revealed he plans to head off to a golf course.

He continued: “I’m just going to try to make the most of the time with my team and family. I am also going to play some golf, just to switch off my mind a little bit.

“The things that I’m doing (in his time off) are working, so I have to keep doing it and will try to play some golf.”

Alcaraz continued to pressure Norrie in the second set and was soon ahead with a break in the third game.

Norrie threatened a response but was given no chance on a break point as Alcaraz fired an ace out wide.

Alcaraz moved 5-3 ahead with a cushioned drop volley and a netted shot from Norrie gave the Spaniard another break and the set.

There was no way back from there for Norrie. A deep return from Alcaraz earned him a break for a 4-2 lead in the third set and the defending champion closed it out on his serve to secure his clash with Fritz at the All England Club.
