Arsenal Women have confirmed the signing of 24-year-old German goalkeeper Anneke Borbe on a permanent deal.
Borbe arrives in London as a free agent after her contract with Wolfsburg expired at the end of June.
She becomes the latest addition to Renee Slegers’ growing squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The German shot-stopper will provide depth and competition in goal for Daphne van Domselaar.
The Dutch international was Arsenal’s regular first choice last season.
Borbe is the club’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of England winger Chloe Kelly and Liverpool defender Taylor Hinds.
From Bremen debut to Wolfsburg breakthrough
Borbe began her senior career with Werder Bremen, making her first appearance at just 16 years old in February 2017.
She went on to play 77 times for the club, playing a vital role in their promotion to the Frauen-Bundesliga during the 2019/20 season.
Her performances earned her a move to Wolfsburg in 2023.
She began with their development squad before making her senior debut for the first team in a 4-1 German Cup win over Mainz in November 2024.
Borbe was promoted to Wolfsburg’s starting line-up in February 2025.
She featured in the final 14 matches of the season as the club finished second in the Bundesliga and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Her arrival comes amid reports suggesting that current back-up goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger could leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
