NBA players LeBron James, Dennis
Schroder, and Giannis Antetokounmpo have made history as their
nation’s official flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Paris
Olympics.
The Lakers’ James, Nets’
Schroder, and Bucks’ Antetokounmpo were the standard bearers for
the USA, Germany, and Greece respectively. Among all the athletes
representing their countries, these NBA players were selected and
given the honor to raise their flags while the opening ceremony
went on at the River Seine.
It was the first time in each
country’s history that basketball players were selected as flag
bearers, and it was a huge honor for James, Schroder, and
Antetokounmpo.
Giannis and Greece are situated
in Group A in the Olympics’ Basketball Tournament alongside Canada,
Australia, and Spain in what figures out to be the ‘Group of
Death’.
Schroder and reigning World
Champions Germany is in Group B with hosts France, Brazil, and
Japan while James’ Team USA is in Group C with Serbia, South Sudan,
and Puerto Rico.
All three will see action
starting July 27 when the Paris 2024 Olympics Basketball Tournament
gets underway at the Pierre de Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France for
the qualification rounds and the quarterfinals to the medal rounds
at Bercy Arena in Paris.
