Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Shamrock Rovers youngster Victor Ozhianvuna, according to the Irish Independent.
The 16-year-old midfielder has caught the attention of top European clubs after a series of impressive performances in Ireland. Arsenal, however, appear to have moved ahead in the race to sign him.
The deal being discussed would break the League of Ireland’s current transfer record of €1.9 million. Sources say the final fee could go significantly higher.
Due to post-Brexit rules, Ozhianvuna will not be able to move to a British club until he turns 18.
As a result, Arsenal are planning to agree a pre-contract with Rovers that allows the player to remain in Dublin until his 18th birthday.
The London club have been monitoring his progress for a long time, even before his senior debut in February. Their interest only grew stronger following his recent displays in the domestic competition.
Ozhianvuna’s manager, Stephen Bradley, has confirmed that the club are close to a deal with an overseas team, strongly believed to be Arsenal.
Discussions are at an advanced stage, and both parties anticipate a full agreement soon.
