Arsenal have the budget to match Newcastle United’s reported £130 million valuation of Alexander Isak, according to the BBC.
The Gunners have previously been credited with an interest in the Sweden international striker, and an opportunity has presented itself after he told the Magpies he wants to leave the club this summer.
However, Arsenal have moved on and have since turned their attention to his international teammate and Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion player is expected to undergo his medical in London today ahead of flying out to Asia to join his soon-to-be new teammates.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of Isak, but his sudden availability has come a little too late, and while they have the budget, they will not be signing two new strikers this summer.
Kai Havertz can also feature as a number 9, while Gabriel Jesus could be available before the end of the year.
The duo are not as prolific as the want-away Newcastle star, but they will be able to provide much-needed quality cover in the position and the Gunners will look to use their available funds to strengthen in other areas.
They still want another wide player after signing Noni Madueke from Chelsea, with Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze and Real Madrid star Rodrygo believed to be on their radar, while Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon has been linked all summer.
The North London club have also snapped up Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard so far this summer, strengthening in major positions, and adding another quality forward to the team will be huge.
Gyokeres will fancy his chances of hitting the ground running as he returns to the Premier League following his terrific form in Portugal, and he will be desperate to prove that he is just as good as Isak, if not better.
