Arsenal’s summer signing Viktor Gyokeres has already made a massive impact in the club’s merchandise sales.
According to The Athleticsales of the striker’s shirt have broken the club’s previous records.
The demand for Gyokeres’ shirt has been described as greater than for any Arsenal player in recent memory.
Gyokeres, who joined from Sporting CP in a £54.8 million deal, is already proving popular with fans.
After his unveiling in Singapore, Arsenal supporters flooded club stores and the online shop to get their hands on his shirt.
Although the Swedish striker wanted to wear the No 9 shirt, it is currently worn by Gabriel Jesus.
He later chose the iconic No 14, famously worn by Thierry Henry.
Free shirt printing offer boosts sales
To mark Gyokeres’ arrival, Arsenal offered free shirt printing for fans.
Normally, adding a name and number costs £16. For a limited time, the club covered the cost both in-store and online.
The response was overwhelming. Demand surged so quickly that Arsenal’s online shop briefly crashed due to the traffic.
The free shirt printing offer remains valid until Thursday.
Although shirt sales data is still being reviewed, early signs show that Gyokeres’ No 14 shirt has already surpassed the popularity of past players.
Before this, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard were top sellers at Arsenal.
Youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly also saw high demand, partly due to wearing No 49 — a nod to Arsenal’s 49-match unbeaten run. But Gyokeres has now overtaken all of them.
Gyokeres joins pre-season tour in Asia
The Swedish forward met Arsenal fans for the first time at the National Stadium in Singapore.
He trained with the team on Tuesday morning ahead of their next pre-season match.
Arsenal will face local rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong on Thursday, July 31.
With interest still growing and the free printing offer ongoing, Gyokeres’ shirt sales could rise even further before the week ends.
