Why is Carlos Alcaraz wearing a chest patch at Wimbledon? Can ‘details make the difference’ for defending champion?

Carlos Alcaraz has been spotted wearing a blue patch on his chest as he warms up for the defence of his Wimbledon crown.

And he is leaving no stone unturned in his attempts to add to an already bulging trophy cabinet.

“I always say the details make the difference,” he revealed.

“It’s something to control the sweat, what should I take during the matches, before the matches, just to be at my 100%.

“(It is) probably just going to help one or two per cent more. But I think, as I said, details make the difference.

“This is something I’m working on sometimes. I did it in Paris (at Roland-Garros). I’m doing it here just to see what should I take.

“This week, last week, and I think next week it’s going to be pretty hot. So I think it’s going to be great to know what should I take more, more water or whatever.”

Now, he has turned to this sweat-controlling patch for Wimbledon.

With temperatures predicted to soar as high as 33 degrees celsius over the opening week at SW19, athletes will be keen to keep an eye on their fluid levels.

Alcaraz will hoping to use the data to push him to that third Wimbledon crown.

As tradition dictates, and as the defending men’s champion, Alcaraz will open the tournament on Monday afternoon with a Centre Court showdown against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini.
