Chelsea vs Liverpool LIVE: Premier League latest score and goal updates as Caicedo scores | Football

Chelsea and Liverpool collide in a thrilling Premier League clash under the lights at Stamford Bridge this evening.

A title race this season was close to be written off just a few weeks ago but two defeats on the bounce for Arne Slot’s side in the Premier League and Champions League have exposed some vulnerabilities in the champions.

Liverpool are also reeling from the loss of Alisson Becker who is set for another spell on the sidelines after a hamstring injury midweek, but can welcome Hugo Ektike back into the matchday squad.

Chelsea aren’t in great nick either, mind. Enzo Maresca is without eight first-team players this evening including the suspended Trevoh Chalobah and injured Cole Palmer.

The Blues have not won a league game since 30 August, form that as dismissed talk of a title challenge in west London this season. Victory tonight could change that.

That would have been very, very soft. Maresca isn’t happy, though, and is shown a yellow card for his continued protests.

38 mins: Another positive burst from Neto after getting the better of Kerkez, but Konate slides across to stop the cross.

It’s nicely worked from the resulting corner, but Garnacho’s effort goes just wide of the post with Mamardashvili rooted to the spot.

KICK-OFF! Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

1 min: And the visitors get us underway!

Here we go

The players emerge from the tunnel and out onto the pitch, and we’re almost ready to go.

What has the next couple of hours got in store for us?

Closing in on kick-off

Under ten minutes to go until kick-off and the atmosphere is building nicely inside Stamford Bridge.

Here’s a reminder of the two starting lineups before we get going:

Chelsea XI: Sanchez; Gusto, achempong, badiashile, cucurella; James, caicedo; Garnacho, Fernandez, Neto; Joao pedro.

Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Bradley, van dijk, konate, kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, szoboszlai, gakpo; Isak.

Chelsea woes against the champs

Chelsea have lost four of our last five home Premier League matches against the reigning champions (one draw, four defeats), having gone undefeated at Stamford Bridge between 2002/03 and 2019/20 (seven wins, six draws).

More injury woes for Arsenal

While it was a comfortable three points against West Ham, there was more injury woes for the Gunners as Martin Odegaard went off with a fresh injury.

Here are all the details…

Slot looking to dispel critics

For the first time in his Liverpool reign, the Dutchman is in a spot of trouble after back-to-back defeats.

The Reds have looked noticeably more open in midfield and defence, while summer signing Florian Wirtz has failed to hit the ground running after his record-breaking move.

Three losses on the bounce would not be a disaster by any means – but it would certainly leave the defending champions with plenty to mull over during the international break.

Full-time in the earlier kick-offs

Well, at least temporarily, we have a new league leader after Arsenal picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham at the Emirates.

And elsewhere, it was a much-needed win for Manchester United, who beat Sunderland by the same scoreline after goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.
