The Minnesota Timberwolves
earned a 107-101 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday
night in a battle amongst the best in the West.
Anthony Edwards scored 27 points
in 40 minutes and Karl-Anthony Towns chipped in 21 points, 10
rebounds and 6 assists to allow the Wolves to take sole position of
the No. 1 seed in the West again.
Coming into the game, the Wolves
and Thunder were tied for first place in the Western Conference at
32-14 following
disappointing losses to the bottom-dwelling San Antonio Spurs and
Detroit Pistons in their previous games.
The game was tightly contested
with five lead changes and five ties throughout. Shai
Gilgeous-Alexander, who led the Thunder in scoring with 37 points
in yet another 30-point performance, sank two free throws to give
his team a 97-96 lead with 2:43 left.
However, his OKC teammate Jalen
Williams suffered an ankle injury after stepping onto his foot.
Williams hobbled back to the locker room and did not put any
pressure on his right foot.
Minnesota took advantage of this
on a Jaden McDaniels triple and then a thunderous Edwards slam to
take back the lead and hold it until the end of the
game.
Defensive anchor Rudy Gobert
added 12 points and 17 boards for the Wolves, who moved to 33-14 on
the season.
As for the Thunder, they fall to
33-15 after prized rookie Chet Holmgren struggled in the game,
finishing with only 4 points on 2-of-9 shooting.
